Additional Property Attributes

the site is the second parcel of excess non-operational Arcelor Mittal Steel property in Weirton, WV set for re-development. The proposed redevelopment will create job opportunities and attract new residents into the Weirton-Steubenville, WV-OH Metropolitan Area. The six subject buildings (Parcels A through F) were constructed with Asbestos Containing Materials used in the construction of six (6) Parcels that total an approximate 152700 square feet. The structures range in size from 10000 sq. ft. to 88200 sq.ft. A master redevelopment plan has been prepared for the subject site. Former Use: The former Weirton Steel Corporation (WSC) filed bankruptcy in 2005 shutting down most of their steel making operations on the approximate 1500-acre property. Six Parcels (buildings) occupy the 10-acre site (Site) that is ready for redevelopment. Parcel A Ladle House; an approximate15000 sq. ft. one-story steel structure once used to perform maintenance on ladles used to transport molten iron form the blast furnaces. Parcel B Bottom House; an approximate 16500 sq. ft. one-story steel structure historically used to replace refractory in the ladles. Parcel C Open-Hearth Warehouse; an approximate 88200 sq. ft. one-story steel structure historically used to store scrap metal to charge the open-hearth furnace. WSC later used the warehouse for general equipment/supplies storage. Parcel D Health-Services Building; an approximate 10000 sq. ft. one-story steel and wooden structure that once housed a medical center. Parcel E Gate 1 Office Building; an approximate 10000 sq. ft. one-story steel and wooden structure that once served as a business office and gatehouse. Parcel F Utility Maintenance Building; an approximate 13000 sq. ft. two-story brick and steel structure historically used for utility maintenance of the blast furnace and other related operations. The Site master plan is to either raze or renovate these buildings to site a metal manufacturing/fabricating operation and a chemical processing. The subject property was historically owned by the Weirton Steel Corporation and subsequent owners as part of much larger land holdings that comprised the Weirton Steel manufacturing facility. On January 2017, Mingo Junction Steel Works, LLC purchased approximately 1,300 acres from ArcelorMittal Steel, including the subject property.
