The existing Avera Gettysburg Hospital building was built in 1952. This old Avera Gettysburg Hospital building will be demolished, and a new hospital building will be constructed. The Avera is committed to continue proVide the highest quality of care to the Gettysburg community. The first step is to assess for the presence ofasbestos and thus they are requesting Brownfields assistance in performing the asbestos survey.

Former Use: The site is a community hospital building and clinic building in Gettysburg, SD. It is a 10-bed Critical Access Hospital, originally constructed in about 1952. The hospital has an estimated 23,000 sq ft of main floor area. There are also basement and second floor areas. The hospital had renovations or additions in at least 1958, 1961, 1977, and 1979. The adjacent clinic building is an estimated 5000 sq ft on the main floor, and was built in 1982. There are also two city buildings, an approximate 24' by 40 building and an approximate 30' by 60' city police station, plus two sheds. Demolition of all of the buildings is planned.
