Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: The subject property encompasses approximately 1.3 acres in Douglas?s downtown area and sits at an elevation of 4,869 feet. The first known use of the subject property is assumed to be as a public school. The earliest historic resource that showed its use as a public school was a Sanborn Fire Insurance map from 1903. It later transitioned for use as the Eastern Wyoming College from 1989 - 2015 and is currently being leased for use by a local church. The current building was constructed in 1935. Due to the age of the building and from results of a facility evaluation by GSG Architecture in 2008, asbestos, mold, radon, and lead are a concern. Petroleum products previously used on site include fuel oil, which was stored in at least one tank and was at one point used to heat the building. Details regarding the former tank were sought from the maintenance department at the Converse County School District, however, no further information was known. The former use of at least one fuel oil storage tank for heating the site-building is considered a REC because release of fuel oil to the environment is likely to have occurred during historical operation of a fuel oil storage tank.
