Additional Property Attributes

Historical information indicates that the property was developed sometime prior to 1916 as the Kershaw Cotton Mill, which was a spinning and weaving textile mill. Dyeing and finishing are not known to have occurred on the subject property. Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps covering the site identify that a machine shop, boilers, and electric transformers were present in the southern portion of the mill parcel. In 2011, the mill was demolished for salvage. Currently all buildings associated with the mill have been demolished with the exception of a former office building. Although the buildings have been removed, most of the mill parcel is covered with concrete slab foundations and some brick rubble. Dollar General acquired 3.5 acres of property to build a Dollar General with a total investment of $1,143,688. The Catawba RCOG does not know if cleanup activities occurred prior to the Dollar General construction. The date that the Dollar General opened is not known by the Catawba RCOG. It is know that the Dollar General contains approximately $300,000 of inventory.
