Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: The property is a Formerly Used Defense Site (FUDS) located on the Vichy Ex-Army Air Field, which is now the Rolla National Airport. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) transferred 0.67 acre to the Department of Defense (DOD), Army Air Force (AAF) on October 28, 1959. DOD used the site as a radar facility. DOD constructed a masonry block building to house radar equaipment, a radar tower with dome, a 5000-gallon underground storage tanks to hold fuel oil for heating purposes, and a pit latrine. DOD removed electronic equipment from the masonry building and radome and the site was transferred to the National Science Foundation (NSF) on April 14, 1969 for research use. NSF is the federal sponsor of the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR). NCAR housed atmospheric research equipment on the property that was on loan to the University of Missouri-Rolla (UMR). The equipment consisted of a Ruby LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) system. The site was then transferred to UMR on September 16, 1974 by quitclaim deed. The use of the site UMR ownership is unknown. UMR conveyed to the property to the City of Rolla on February 24, 1981 by quitclaim deed.
