Additional Property Attributes

This historic gas station is the first thing anyone sees as they enter the historic Black town of Boley from Highway 62. It used to be a gas station and automotive repair shop, but it now deteriorating after being abandoned for years. The new owners, Richard and Dana Hammett, purchased this property and the surrounding parcel in 2020 to redevelop it. The Hammetts have already refurbished the restaurant on site, J&L McCormick's. It's the only restaurant in Boley, and it serves delicious cheeseburgers and fries. Their plan is to renovate the house and motel on site as well, and turn the gas station into a gift shop or Boley welcome center. The OCC conducted the Phase I using an EPA Multipurpose Grant in June of 2021, and the Phase II using 128(a) funding in September - November of 2021. The Phase II revealed petroleum products at levels higher than OCC action levels, so an OCC Petroleum Storage Tank Division case was started - case #064-4685. The state Indemnity Fund paid for the corrective action (logged under "cleanup" activities in ACRES) on the site. The case was closed in July of 2022, which is when the OCC Brownfield Program send the Certification of Completion to the Hammetts. Redevelopment is ongoing and we will report as we acquire information.
