Additional Property Attributes

Historically, a brick manufacturing plant operated at the Subject Property since the 1880s with railroad tracks on the eastern border and other large structures associated with brick manufacturing visible in various topographic maps and historical aerial photographs. Multiple dwellings, a shop, and an office were located on the eastern side of the Subject Property; several aboveground storage tanks (ASTs), a wastewater holding area, coal storage area, and similar features were also identified from the historical review of available site information. City of Atlanta directories indicate that the Subject Property was owned by either Chattahoochee Brick Plant Company or General Shale from at least 1961 to 2005. The Subject Property has been vacant since 2010, and the site structures were demolished by General Shale in 2011. The Subject Property is currently surrounded in various directions by an adjacent rail yard, residential, commercial, and vacant property, and the Chattahoochee River.

Since being acquired the City of Atlanta intends to redevelopment the site as a park and memorial to those who worked there as convict laborers.
