The facility was built by a health care provider as a nursing facility and then transferred ownership several times before eventually being closed by Avera Health and transferred to Mount Marty University.

The site is currently vacant and has not been used since 2015. The City of Yankton is very much interested in redevelopment of this site. Housing is a significant need in the community
and the university population is a part of that equation. This site has the potential to create a large number of new housing units for the community and potentially fill needs in more than one
segment of the housing sector.
