Additional Property Attributes

The property was donated to the City of Pilot Rock. The city accepted the property after completion of a Prospective Purchasers Agreement with ODEQ. The former property owner, International Paper, undertook extensive cleanup effort (under ODEQ regulatory oversight) at the site's waste water treatment ponds. OECDD's assistance to the City of Pilot Rock was to complete a Phase II ESA on the property in the immediate vicinity of the mill buildings. A fire destroyed a portion of the existing mill buildings in November 2004. Kinzua Resources which operates a pine mill cutting industrial, shop-grade-dimension lumber products, leased the property with an option to purchase in January 2005. Kinzua employs 130 workers. (PPF - International Paper Masonite, 5/15/06)

Former Use: The property was owned by International Paper Corporation and is a former Masonite fiberboard manufacturing plant that was an operating facility for nearly 50 years before ceasing operations in March 2000. The City of Pilot Rock acquired ownership through donation (71 acres) and purchase (445 acres) under a Prospective Purchasers Agreement on June 24, 2004. Current uses include the developed portion of the property under lease with a lumber processing manufacturing facility. (PPF - International Paper Masonite, 5/15/2006)
