Additional Property Attributes

The current property owner, Hawaii Public Housing Authority, acquired the site in 1968. The site was first developed in 1969 and continues to operate today as low income, multi-family residential housing. The site is comprised of approximately 11.82 acres of land with 260 tenant units in 27 buildings. No previous Phase I or Phase II ESAs have been conducted on the site; however, a HUD CATEX Environmental Review was conducted of the site and a lead-based paint survey was completed. Additionally, there was an emergency cleanup action for a mercury release in 2001 when children carried methylmercury released at the nearby Aiea Naval Pumphouse to the housing complex and brought it into their homes. The cleanup focused on the residential units impacted.

The HPHA plans to redevelop the site with mixed use multi-family housing and commercial. A Request for Qualifications for a master developer was issued in January 2023 that included the site, listing a potential for 2,170 new units.
