Additional Property Attributes

The City of Austin intends to build a neighborhood public health center in the Dove Springs Neighborhood Park, a historically low-income area with more than 25% of residents living in poverty. Residents requested and the City approved using some of the parkland surrounding the existing Dove Springs Recreation Center into a neighborhood public health center. Austin Public Health requested a Phase I ESA before changing the use of the property. The Phase I ESA did not identify any RECs, and the site was ready for reuse. Recent flood incidents impacting this area highlight the lack of public health, basic needs, preventive health care and employment support services in the Dove Springs Neighborhood, with the closest full- service facility 5 miles away. The center has been a priority for city and community leaders for years, with voters approving $16 million in bond funding to bring long-needed preventive health care, childcare and other services to the area. The City gathered input from the community, conducting 4 outreach events in 2018/2019 to identify the most needed services. The facility address is 5811 Palo Blanco Lane. The building project has started its Design phase after hearing from the community.
