Additional Property Attributes

The site is located at 158 Tribal Way in Harlem, Montana. The site contains one large structure and is part of a much larger parcel owned by the Fort Belknap Indian Community. The site is in a mixed-use area and is bound by 1st Street to the north and Agency Main Street to the south. Several other tribal services buildings as well as residential areas surround the site to the east and west. There is one permanent structure at the site. The building is a large split-level structure with an adjoining ground floor annex which serves as the primary point of entry to the site. Upon entering the building and going through the ground floor annex, stairs lead either up or downstairs to various tribal departments and office spaces. The entire structure is approximately 23,000 square feet. FBIC has reportedly owned the site since the 1800s. The building was constructed around 1980 as office space for the tribe and Bureau of Indian Affairs. Today, the site still houses several tribal departments and serves as the main storage location for all of FBIC's governing and departmental documents.

A.L.M., NIH, and IOE arrived at the site the morning of September 29, 2023 to complete the investigation, but were later informed by the landowner shortly after that the site was to be evacuated in response to a confirmed COVID-19 close contact in the building. FBIC's COVID-19 response protocol is to immediately evacuate and deep clean all tribal-owned buildings in which a confirmed COVID-19 case or close contact has been identified. Given the evacuation was on a Friday and the tribal office was not open on the following Saturday, the asbestos and LBP inspection could not be completed. A mold inspection was completed, and an HA List and Suspect ACBM list was completed.
