Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: The property is a three story structure with a mansard roof and full basement that occupies the majority of the land on the plot. The building was constructed in the 1890�s according to historical records and was home for a variety of uses discussed below. The building is being evaluated for renovation by the Readsboro Hometown Redevelopment Committee a local group who is interested in repairing and renovating the building and using it for mixed uses which might include retail, offices, apartments, and Town Office space. The building is not being used at the present time due to issues with Vermont Labor and Industry and the lack of fire sprinklers in the structure. The building most recently was used for sales of used items and storage of miscellaneous household goods. The second floor apartments are unoccupied and have a significant amount of personal affects from local individuals who were given permission to store items in the building and have not retrieved them. 6.2.2 Past Uses The subject property has been used for a variety of business functions in the past. A history of the building developed by the Readsboro Hometown Redevelopment Committee indicates the following uses: 1890 � E.J. Bullock and Co. general store; 1909 � Third floor space was divided off for the Balance Rock Lodge, Free and Accepted Masons chartered on June 10, 1909; 1940�s � mixed use including the Town Library; 1960�s � a general store; 1970�s � apartments and a wire twisting business; 1980�s � 1990�s � apartments and commercial Approx 2004 � deemed not suitable for public use, currently used as storage
