Additional Property Attributes

This property has been completely transformed from an environmental and community liability to an asset. Southeast Uplift leveraged extensive technical and financial support over a period of years to turn a former gas station and drug trafficking site into a neighborhood resource - complete with family-friendly coffee shop, sustainable landscaping, and new open space for playground and gardening. EPA funding for environmental assessment was instrumental in moving the project forward.

Former Use: This site operated as a service station from roughly 1928 to 1987, and subsequently became a drive-through coffee shop. In the 1990s the property was seized by U.S. Marshals Service because of illegal drug trafficking. Title was transfered to the nonprofit neighborhood association, Southeast Neighborhood Uplift Program, Inc in 2006.
