Additional Property Attributes

Property is a vacant gasoline service station. Three underground tanks remain at the facility. Asbestos and lead-based paint were identified in the building. Small automobile repairs conducted at the facility. Lead was identified in soils behind the automobile repair area. Petroleum release was identified from underground storage tanks. Underground tanks will need to be removed per state regulations. Since the underground tanks are located immediately adjacent to the site building, the building need to be removed in order to remove the underground tanks. Redevelopment planning conceptual site plans have been completed and include a one story office/restaurant building with green space. After approval of the SS QAPP by EPA, the City of Millen began remediation activities on September 12, 2011. Field activities were completed on October, 7 2011. Reporting to both the GA EPD UST Managment Program and the GA EPD Brownfields Program has been completed. A No Further Action letter was received from EPD UST Managment Program on December 8, 2011. A limiatation of liability letter was received from EPD Brownfield on June 26, 2012.

Former Use: Site developed in the 1940s as an SOC gasoline station. Small scale automobile repair operations were also conducted at the site. A small restaurant was then added later. The entire operation was closed down by 1978 and the property has remained vacant since that time. Remediation activities (lead and petroleum impacted soils) have been completed in accordance with the GA EPD UST Managment Program and the GA EPD Brownfields program. Currently, the site is undeveloped; however, the City recently was awarded GA DOT Grant funds to construct a visitor center at the property.
