Additional Property Attributes

Property to be auctioned in June 2007 for $891,000. It is listed on the National Historical Register. Property auctioned to Albion Heritage, LLC. The LLC is redeveloping the property and participating in Idaho's Voluntary Cleanup Program and is a Pilot brownfields. (PPF - Albion Normal School and Campus, 12/5/07)

Former Use: Thirty-four acres and seven structures (one administrative, one power plant, five campus buildings including dormitories, gym, classrooms, and auditorium), currently vacant, formerly a teachers college. Adjacent land use is a mixture of agricultural, residential, and commercial. The property was built to operate as an educational college for teachers. The property operated as such until the 1950's when it was gifted to the City of Albion. Since then, after short periods of leasing to various groups, the property has been vacant. There is concern over the possible presence of contamination associated with coal-fired power plants (the power plant for the school was coal-fired), asbestos in ceiling and roofing tiles as well as insulation, and lead-based paint. Due to the age and condition of the buildings, it is possible that lead (exterior paint) and asbestos (suspected exterior tiles and piping insulation) may be escaping into the environment. (PPF - 5/6/07)
