Additional Property Attributes

Wal-Mart Center is in operation since 11/2006. (PPF-12/20/06)

Former Use: The property is the location of the old Warrington Village Shopping Center. The center sat vacant for many years and had fallen into disrepair and dilapidation. The condition of the site created blight and was a major contributor to a perception of economic hardship within the Warrington Community. The site was also complicated by previous contamination from a dry-cleaning facility that operated in the shopping center. The Florida Department of Environmental Protection has addressed the contamination issues. Wal-Mart Stores East purchased the property, and as part of their-development strategy, requested that the property be designated as a brownfield by Escambia County, in order to pursue Florida State Economic Development tax incentives issues through the Office of Trade, Tourism and Economic Development. The store opened in November 2006 and has created 275 full-time jobs, the majority of which will come from the immediate area. (PPF-12/20/06)
