Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: As early as 1886, the Site was reportedly developed as a sawmill and a lumber storage area. The Site appears to have been vacant between 1892 and 1926. From at least 1945 to 1995 the Site was occupied by the Rieth-Riley Construction Company. During the Phase I ESA conducted in 1995, the main building at the Site was described as consisting of several interconnected structures and included a truck shed, an oil storage room, a container storage room and various parts storage and workshop areas. The Site is currently occupied by the Goshen Street Department as a vehicle maintenance/materials storage/office building. The Site lies in an area west of and adjacent to the Millrace Canal, between the Canal and the Elkhart River located approximately 100 feet west of the Site. Wooded/wetland/park areas are located south and west of the Site. A partially occupied commercial/industrial property is located north of the Site.
