Additional Property Attributes

The KCAILUC requested individual Phase I ESAs on each primary building to facilitate lease of the structures to interested parties for 'revitalization' purposes. This provides necessary due diligence status to expedite any lease specific by building since some buildings will not be revitalized. Their consideration included the main campus associated with possible lease consisting of approximately, 15 acres. Assessment documentation now provides Phase I ESA for each 10 primary structures, main campus consolidated into 2 large binders.

Former Use: DEQ recently awarded an ARRA subgrant to the Kiowa, Comanche, and Apache Intertribal Land Use Committee. The KCAILUC will use the grant for asbestos abatement of five buildings on the Fort Sill Indian School campus located in Lawton. Fort Sill Indian School was established in 1871 as a boarding school for children from the Apache, Comanche, Caddo, Delaware, Kiowa, Kiowa-Apache and Wichita tribes from 1st through 8th grade. In the 1930s, the school expanded to include additional grades and changed to a vocational school, where students went to class half days and worked half days. The first high school class to graduate was in 1939. After WWII, students from tribes in Arizona, New Mexico and other states attended the Ft. Sill Indian School. In 1960, the curriculum changed to academic courses. The school graduated its last high school class in 1980. After the abatement is completed, the KCAILUC plans to work with the Comanche Nation College to renovate the existing five buildings in order to provide additional space for the College to expand.
