Additional Property Attributes

The property is adjacent to the Westfield River, a Nationally Designated Wild and Scenic River.

Former Use: The Former Baystate Abrasives Site consists of two parcels of land (Parcel 71.2 and 72.4)totaling 5.59 acres along the north and south sides of Bay State Drive in Chester, MA. The property was used for manufacturing of grinding wheels from roughly 1910 to 1982 for several different companies. The property consists of a former boiler house,warehouse and concrete building slab from the former manufacturing building.The manufacturing building was destroyed by fire in 1986. Parcel 71.2 contains the building slab and parcel 72.4 contains the boiler house and warehouse buildings. In 1987, three USTs - 1,000-gallong fuel oil, 500-gallon gasoline and one 20,000 gallon fuel oil- were removed. Two USTs remain on the property - 20,000 gallon fuel oil tanks and 1,000 gallon gasoline tank.
