Additional Property Attributes

This site is a Landfarm where contaminated soils from a Logging company were relocated. Primary goal is to restore the site to its historical use as a Native Traditional Root Gathering area for Tribal members of the Colville Indian Tribe. Remediation will be to remove the landfarm and associated contaminated material from the site and return the site to a natural state commensurate with the cultural significance of the area. In contract, primary requirements of the CAP under MTCA are to protect human health and the environment.

Former Use: Mineral Hill Landfarm site constructed in 1980 to receive ~2,000 yd3 of soil contaminated by pentachlorophenol and diesel release at Nespelem Post & Pole site in Nespelem. Treatment method approved by EPA Region 10 (1980). Preliminary testing in 2006 confirmed that treatment was unsuccessful in degrading COCs to acceptable concentrations. It was determined that the Landfarm was not a suitable use of this culturally sensitive area of Mineral Hill. In 2014 the contaminated soils were moved back to the original site, the former Nespelem Post and Pole Site (also known as the Tribal Fish and Wildlife site). After the soils were returned to the former Nespelem Post and Pole site, they were capped.
