Additional Property Attributes

The City of Ironton withdrew the Targeted Brownfield Assessment application for the Memorial Hall Asbestos Assessment Project on 12/18/2008.

Former Use: The Memorial Hall property has been owned by the City of Ironton since the 1800s. Memorial Hall originally opened as a veteran's memorial hall and was dedicated on October 13, 1892. An auditorium and stage occupied the second floor, the Briggs Library, G.A.R. post rooms and city engineer's office were on the third floor, and the basement was the armory for the National Guard. During December 1905, the building was severely darnaged by a fire. All that remained of the original building was the stone facade. Several years later the building was rebuilt and completely occupied by the City, City Council, Municipal Court, Manager's office, Water Works, Health Department, Public Recreation and the City Prison. All City offices were moved out of Memorial Hall in 1995. Memorial Hall has been vacant since 1996.
