Additional Property Attributes

An Analysis of Brownfields Cleanup Alternatives was prepared in anticipation of an application by the Village of Peninsula to the USEPA for a FFY2014 Cleanup grant. The grant application was submitted in December 2014. The FY15 clean up grant application was unsuccessful.

Former Use: The Property is a former commercial facility which has been vacant since October 2006 when a retail tenant (Antique Emporium) vacated the premises. The Village of Peninsula acquired the Property on October 15, 1985 as a donation. The Property includes a building consisting of an original two-level modified Louden barn with an addition on the east end, which adds to the overall length. According to the old Louden Barn Plan catalog, the original barn may have been constructed around 1920. The age of the stage addition was not known, Structural renovation work at the addition was performed in the early 1990's. The original barn is approximately 50 ft. long by 36 ft. wide. The addition adds approximately 24 ft. to the length and is approx. 48 ft. wide. The building construction consists of wood framing supported on stud bearing walls and beams supported on timber and metal posts; non-load bearing interior wood stud walls; and a concrete slab-on-grade floor. The Village has submitted a brownfields cleanup application to the USEPA. The Cuyahoga Valley National Park plans to acquire the property after the barn has been remediated. Funds from this transaction will assist in the Village's efforts to construct a much-needed sewage treatment plant.
