Additional Property Attributes

The site is approximately 1.2 acres and is improved with a vacant, one-story, 2,380-square foot building formerly utilized as a gasoline service station and auto body repair garage. Former operations within the building included auto repair and spray painting of vehicle body parts. The building was formerly serviced by a septic system and a potable drinking water well. Former gasoline and diesel fuel pump islands, five former underground storage tanks (USTs), two above ground storage tanks (ASTs), and three large debris piles also occupied the site.

Former Use: 501 Church Street is an old, abandoned gasoline filling station site. The owner/operator of the Hebron Service Center is now deceased. The property is in the ownership and control of relatives who were not part of the original business. The business has not operated for 20 years. To the Towns knowledge, the underground tanks have been removed as well as the soils that were immediately surrounding the tanks, but it is the understanding of the town that contaminated soils still exist on the site. The site is delinquent in the payment of taxes and remains a blight on the immediate surrounding neighborhood. In 2000, the Town of Hebron, with the permission of the property owner, and using its own funds, hired Marin Environmental Services to do a Phase I Assessment and also to do some testing on the site to determine the extent of the contamination. Phase I data need to be updated and complete Phase II and Phase III ESAs are warranted which will further the current interest in the site by private development interests. Note: Amston is located in the southeastern portion of the Town of Hebron.
