Additional Property Attributes

All RECs identified in the Phase I ESA are off-site. Phase II is recommended prior to acquisition. With the grant budget, other sites had higher priority based on redevelopment opportunities. The Marion Central Corridor Master Plan identified the site within Phase 4 of its redevelopment efforts. The site will become part of a new civic plaza associated with a 10-foot wide recreational trial connecting the area to downtown Marion.

Former Use: The property was a vacant lot from approximately 1940 to 1956 and commercial development from 1957 to the present. Commercial uses included a stockyard from approximately 1956 to 1992. The later date corresponds with decreased rail availability on the then adjacent rail line. The American Legion currently uses the one single-story commercial structure on the site as a meeting and dinning facility. The property also includes a telecommunications tower.
