Additional Property Attributes

The Site is currently occupied by an abandoned paper sludge landfill the landfill was historically operated as part of an adjacent paper mill facility. The paper mill is located south of the Site south of the Ashuelot River and has been shut down since approximately 2005. The landfill portion of the Site consists of paper waste pits that encompass the majority of the interior of the Site approximately 60 of the Site.

Former Use: According to historical records and former mill employees, a gravel pit appears to have been located on the Site from the early 1900s until the early to mid-1970s when the Site was utilized by the paper mill facility. The mill was historically operated by Ashuelot Paper Company from the mill's development in the early 1900s until circa 1994, at which time American Tissue Mills of NH obtained the mill facility including the Site. American Tissue Mills of NH underwent bankruptcy proceedings circa 2005, and according to the Town of Winchester Assessor's Office, the court discharged the Site from the bankruptcy estate at that time, and the Site was abandoned.
