Additional Property Attributes

Study of background concentrations of metals and PAHs in the Cleveland area.

Former Use: Forest Hills Park In 1873 and 1913, John D. Rockefeller purchased 267-acres of rural land in East Cleveland which extended into the City of Cleveland Heights. Rockefeller maintained a summer home in the northern portion of the property until 1917 when it burned to the ground. In 1938, Rockefeller gave East Cleveland and Cleveland Heights 235-acres to be parkland. As the area surrounding the park was developed with residences and some commercial development along Euclid Avenue, Sanborn Fire Insurance Map coverage was very limited. istorical aerial photographs show Forest Hills to have remained predominantly undeveloped with the exception of various park structures. Bratenahl Mather Estate Historical information of Bratenahl indicates that the area was rural with some farmland from the mid-19th century until 1903 when it became incorporated as a village. Originally, development in Bratenahl included large mansions along Lakeshore Blvd. owned by some of the wealthy families of Cleveland. istorical aerial photos show Bratenahl predominantly residential with large tracts of undeveloped woodlands. The Mather Estate has several summer homes and the remains of what appears to be an old greenhouse foundation on a portion of site but the majority of the property is undeveloped. Brecksville Metro Park The Metro Park district purchased the property in the mid- 1920s from private owners. Ford Fields is a meadow that during less wet years is kept mowed and used for soccer fields. The Stables are used to house riding horses. here is a fenced pasture as well as a building that houses horses and staff. Riding trails are also located here as well as parking areas for trucks and trailers.
