Additional Property Attributes

The Knox County Trustee is the current owner of the Site; however, upon completion of this assesment and reporting activities, the City of Galesburg (City) will consider whether to acquire the Site, enroll the Site into the State of Illinois Site Remediation Program (SRP), and seek funds from Illinois Revolving Loan Fund (RLF) for any required cleanup activities. The Site has a strategic location and is considered by the City as a prime property for redevelopment. The scope of work (SOW) was developed in part by Terracon Consultants, Inc. (Terracon) based on previous investigations conducted by Terracon at the Site. Upon completion of the investigation, analytical data will be validated and provided to Terracon for use in a Comprehensive Site Investigation Report (CSIR) / Remedial ives Report (ROR) / Remedial Action Plan (RAP) for submission to the State of Illinois SRP.

Former Use: The Site background information is excerpted from sections of the Municipal Brownfields Redevelopment Grant (MBRG) provided by Terracon. The Site was developed prior to 1888 with residential dwellings. By 1898, the Site had been developed with a dry cleaner. Knox Laundry occupied the site from 1918 to 2007 with a two-story commercial dry-cleaner structure. Auto maintenance and leather working also occurred on portions of the Site from 1927 to 1950. In 2007, the onsite building was demolished and removed due to safety concerns. The Site has been vacant since 2007. The Knox County Trustee is the current owner of the Site; however, upon completion of this assessment and reporting activities, the City will consider whether to acquire the Site, enroll the Site into the State of Illinois SRP, and seek funds from Illinois RLF for any required cleanup activities. The Site is located adjacent to and south and east of the Trinity Lutheran Church located on the southeast corner of the intersection of North Kellogg and East Ferris Streets. The Site is bounded by an alley to the south and a church to the east.
