Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: The subject site is located in a mixed commercial/residential area in Attleboro MA (Figure 1), and has a history of industrial use. When the property was abandoned, the prior owner left behind approximately 100 drums of waste and other hazardous substances. Site assessment data from the unpaved area in the rear of the building demonstrates that releases of chlorinated solvents have impacted soil and groundwater. However, analytical data is several years old and needs to be updated prior to finalizing the Analysis of Brownfield Cleanup Alternatives (ABCA). Impacted groundwater has migrated south towards and beneath a residential area and indoor air in nearby residences has been impacted. Indoor air data also needs to be updated to determine whether engineering controls are needed in these residences. In addition, abandoned petroleum underground storage tanks may be present at this site. Historic reports prepared by other consultants indicate that petroleum impact has been identified in the vicinity of former/abandoned USTs. Appendix A includes a historic site map (prepared by CMG Environmental) which shows the approximate locations of the potential and abandoned USTs. Investigation is needed to determine whether USTs are still present, and whether residual petroleum in soil and groundwater requires remedial action.
