Additional Property Attributes

The US EPA tasked Tetra Tech to conduct a Phase II ESA of the site under the Superfund Technical Assessment and Response Team (START) contract EP-S5-13-01, Technical Direction Document (TDD) No. S05-0003-1408-017. Redevelopment plans include loop trails for recreational use.

Former Use: The Phase I ESA indicated the site has had a history of unregulated and undocumented dumping since at least 1948. The site has been developed since at least 1896 and has included use as a tannery, a disinfectant manufacturing company, a filling station, and an auto repair shop. The site has included historical use as an auto scrap yard, the Brooklyn Station Municipal Electric Light Plant, and railroad spurs enter the site. Seeps containing a sheen have been observed on the site's steep ravine along Big Creek. Potential asbestos containing building materials were identified in scattered piles of demolition debris at the site. The Phase II ESA indicated that samples of soil, sediment, and groundwater did not meet applicable standards under the Ohio VAP for residential use (unrestricted or restricted). Further evaluation and/or remedial measures are warranted for this site.
