Additional Property Attributes

The US EPA tasked Tetra Tech, Inc. to conduct a Phase II ESA of the site under the Superfund Technical Assessment and Response Team (START) contract EP-S5-13-01, Technical Direction Document (TDD) No. S05-0003-1601-003. The property was operated as a manufacturing facility for at least 65 years and went into foreclosure. Defiance County is interested in redeveloping the property to provide job creation and manufacturing expansions.

Former Use: The property was used for manufacturing for at least 65 years. The most recent operating entity, SK Handtools functioned as a manufacturing plant for the production of hand tools. The tools were manufactured from raw bar stock to finished goods. Processes conducted by SK Handtools included forging, die sinking, blanking, machining, broaching, polishing, heat treating, plating, and coating of steel. The property includes underground storage tanks, aboveground storage tanks, transformers, hydraulic lifts, and various trenches and drains. The facility received an Ohio Bureau of Underground Storage Tank Regulation No Further Action letter dated July 13, 1991 for a 15,000-gallon kerosene UST and a 5,000-gallon diesel UST; both USTs were removed on January 1, 1992.

The future use of the site is currently unknown, but the Land Bank has a goal of selling the site to a developer.
