Additional Property Attributes

The Site includes a 6,400-square foot asphalt parking lot and a 4,000-square foot community garden serving the residents of the nearby Na Lei Hulu Kupuna senior housing development. It is located in a mixed- commercial and residential area of Honolulu known as Kakaako Community Development District. The Site is currently owned by Hawaii Community Development Authority.

Former Use: Prior to 1914, the Site property was originally developed with three single-family residential structures with frontage on Cooke Street and a warehouse (northern side). The warehouse on the north side of the Site was utilized for oil drum storage. By 1950 all of the original structures on the Site were removed with the exception of a single-family residence attached to a dry-cleaning business in the west-central portion of the Site. The two single-family residential structures were replaced with commercial stores along Cooke Street, including a restaurant, clothing presser, and a retail property. Between 1950 and 1955, the remaining original single-family residence and attached dry cleaning business were removed; and a 17-room multi-family apartment building (northeast area), as well as an additional single-family residence (northwest area), were constructed on the Site. The Site included these residential structures and the commercial stores along Cooke Street until the late 1980s/early 1990s when the Site was cleared and redeveloped as a paved parking lot. The Site was acquired by Hawaii Community Development Authority in 1990.
