Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: The Bloomfield East Property (Parcel R0061021) assessment focused on one parcel totaling 4.0-acres. The site operated as the Former Aerex Refinery from approximately 1932 to the 1960s and was dismantled in the 1980s. The property is currently vacant with no structures. The Phase I ESA found the following RECs: presence of soil and groundwater impacted with petroleum products have been identified on the subject property.

The Phase II ESA field work included ground penetrating radar survey, passive and active soil gas sampling, soil sampling, and groundwater sampling. The East Parcel residential, industrial/occupational, and construction worker pathways are complete. Groundwater and soil has been impacted by the release of petroleum. Accordingly, cleanup alternatives were evaluated for the East Parcel in an ABCA. The alternative selected in the ABCA for the East Parcel is Alternative 3 which is to excavate soil to 15 Feet and 5 years long-term groundwater monitoring. This alternative will allow the property to be used for recreation purposes. Unlimited reuse including installation of subsurface structures such as irrigation system and restroom and pavilion utilities and foundations. The City of Bloomfield owns the property as of 2021 and applied for a FFY22 EPA Brownfields 104(k) Cleanup Grant.
