Additional Property Attributes

In 1979, a private citizen purchased Lots 1 and 2 of Block 4 and began transporting materials for a salvage business to the site 1987. Materials brought to the site include military surplus supplies and equipment, transformers, batteries, automobiles, wire, paint in various sized containers, 55-gallon drums, building materials, and petroleum products. These materials were stored on lots owned by the private citizen, neighboring lots owned by others, and within the ROWs. An automobile shop operated for an unknown period in a garage located on Lot 1 of Block 4. The services provided by the auto shop are not known, though waste found at the site suggest, at a minimum, basic automotive services may have been performed. Anecdotal information also suggests that vehicles were drained of their fluids onto the ground prior to being dismantled for scrap in the area near the garage. Several areas of the site were also used to burn the insulation coating off wire, presumably to recover copper. These areas may have also been used to burn batteries for lead recovery.
