Additional Property Attributes

The Old Calvary Building is one of two properties evaluated by the Targeted Brownfields Assessment project. The property includes a single-story, stone-walled structure. Adjacent buildings are used by the Fort McDermitt Paiute-Shoshone Tribe for offices. Currently used for storage and in disrepair, the Old Cavalry Building formerly hosted a store with an underground storage tank that held diesel fuel. The Old Cavalry Building was built circa 1865 as part of Quinn River Camp #33 and served as a military outpost for 24 years before use as a school. The Fort McDermitt Paiute-Shoshone Tribe plans to update and maintain the historic Old Cavalry Building for use as a cultural center and/or museum.
