Additional Property Attributes

The former Pacific Western Systems Building is one of two properties evaluated by the Targeted Brownfields Assessment project. The property includes a warehouse structure. Adjacent buildings are used by the Bureau of Indian Affairs and there is a residential area across the street. Currently used for storage and in disrepair, the former Pacific Western Systems Building hosted a machine shop where metal and asbestos-containing materials were milled into components for electrical testing equipment until 1987. A disposal pit east of the structure was used to dispose of metal shavings, and used oils, lubricants, cleaning fluids and solvents. The Fort McDermitt Paiute-Shoshone Tribe plans to renovate the former Pacific Western Systems Building for use as a workshop and storage area for the tribe's maintenance department.
