Property Highlights

The Site is located in the town of Nixon, Washoe County, Nevada. Land use in Nixon is a mixture of low-density, single-family homes intermixed with commercial and institutional properties. The Site is made up of three separate locations in Nixon. This Site generally adjoins minimally vegetated vacant lots, residential dwellings, and commercial structures. The Rock Building is a stone and wood building located on a 0.23-acre lot at 206 Capitol Hill. It is part of a complex of PLPT government offices. According to PLPT, the Rock Building was constructed in 1902 by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, which occupied the building through the 1960s. The building has been used as a school, residence, and administrative offices. Currently the Rock Building is used as a place for Pyramid Lake Housing Authority staff to park vehicles. The Rock Building, which is currently closed and locked to prevent potential exposures to contaminants and prevent vandalism. Based on anecdotal evidence, the Rock Building was constructed circa 1902 by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, which occupied the building through the 1960s. During the review of historical resources, a structure, presumed to be the Rock Building, was observed in the area of the Rock Building throughout the time period reviewed. The building has been used as a school, residence, and administrative offices. Currently the Rock Building is used as a place for Pyramid Lake Housing Authority staff to park vehicles. The Rock Building is currently closed/unoccupied and reportedly locked to prevent potential asbestos exposures. Reportedly an AST used for heating oil was formerly located beneath the roof dripline on the south side of the Rock Building. Based on age, the Rock Building may contain asbestos-containing building materials, lead based paint and/or polychlorinated biphenyls.
