Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: The San German Waste Disposal is located at PR highway #2, KM 172.8 in San German, PR. It comprises two parcels. Parcel A is an inactive municipal landfill that covers an area of 4.86 acres. Parcel B is 10.54 acres located in a hilly, upland area. An unnamed creek flows adjacent to the western portion of the landfill. Initially, the Municipality used Parcel A as a municipal solid waste landfill. parcel B was privately owned and used for sugar cane cultivation and later as a cow pasture. Citizens started to illegally dump waste at Parcel B. Later, the Municipality started using Parcel B for waste disposal. In 1986 the Municipality filed an action with the Superior Court of San Juan to obtain ownership of Parcel B. The municipality finally acquired ownership of Parcel B through an eminent domain action on April 1, 1998. Parcel B is currently covered in vegetation, including grass and young trees. The San German Landfill was closed in 1996. The San German Municipal Landfill Closure Plan indicates that closure activities included installation of erosion and sediment control devices, regrading of waste areas, installation of soil cover, construction of berms and storm drains, and seeding with grass.
