Additional Property Attributes

The opening of a brand-new state-of-the-art police station can greatly increase the sense of community and security in a neighborhood. When the police station is built on a brownfield that once posed an imminent public health threat in an environmental justice community, the positive impact is even more dramatic. On July 30, the City of Boston held a grand opening ceremony to celebrate its new police station in the Dudley Square neighborhood in Roxbury. The police station was built at the former Modern Electroplating site. The City completed the Brownfields cleanup during the spring of 2011 through a cleanup grant from EPA. In 1995, EPA conducted a 1.3M time critical removal action to address bulk chemicals and other imminent hazards posed by the abandoned electroplating facility. The Mayor's groundbreaking ceremony for the new police station was on 10/15/09 and the grand opening celebration was held on 7/30/11.
