Additional Property Attributes

The property is the main economic area for the tribe and currently contains a casino, gas station and small RV park. Planned uses for the area are to develop a hotel facility associated with the Tribal Casino, as well as to develop additional retail establishments. Adjacent to the property, off-reservation, is a closed landfill that is on the Washington State confirmed or suspected contaminated sites list and is currently undergoing cleanup evaluation. The area is on the shoreline of the Padilla Bay National Estuary and has significant associated fish and wildlife habitat, including that of endanged salmonids.

Former Use: Property exists on filled second class tidelands filled since mid 20th centuryof the Swinomish Reservation. The Swinomish Reservation resulted from the Treaty of Point Elliot 1855. The Tribal Casino has been located on site since 1985 and Tribal gas station since 2003. An agricultural chemical storage facility was active on the premises approx 1965 to 1995 on land leased from the Tribe. A Burlington Northern railroad right of way crosses the site since the late 19th century and prior to tideland filling.
