Additional Property Attributes

Site was a former gasoline service station and auto repair business. Petroleum had been stored in above ground storage tanks (ASTs). A release from the ASTs was investigated in 1988, but no further remedial action occurred. The site has a dilapidated building and sits vacant. The City of Guthrie Center seeks to obtain the property, demolish the building, and build a new fire station for the City. However, they were concerned about environmental conditions that could impede their plans, and sought 128(a) assistance for environmental due diligence and regulatory advisement. The Phase I identified RECs related to the AST release and auto repair activities. Phase II activities indicated residual, dissolved petroleum and minor soil contamination. Contaminant levels in soil did not exceed comparative VCP standards, and groundwater petroleum contamination in groundwater has declined substantially, and has not migrated off-site. With no water withdrawal planned at the site, no further action is required.

Former Use: Margaret L. Buttler is current owner. Ms. Buttler did not operate the ASTs nor conduct any automotive related activities. Previous owners and RPs are deceased and their corporate entities no longer exist.
