Additional Property Attributes

Six properties within a 1-mile radius of the Former Milford Police Station are potentially responsible parties associated with one USEPA Superfund Cleanup site called the Savage Water Supply Well site, a water supply well formerly owned by the Town of Milford. In the 1980's contamination was identified in the supply well, other nearby residential water supplies, and the Souhegan River. Further investigations determined that the following were all PRPs for the contamination: OK Tool Company located adjacent west Hitchiner Manufacturing Co., Inc located adjacent south A landfill site owned by Hitchiner located 0.5 miles southeast New England Steel Fabricators located 0.26 miles southeast Hendrix Wire and Cable 0.3 miles southeast The OK Tool Company site located adjacent west to the subject property has known soil and groundwater contamination on the site. This site is currently under remediation and has a large groundwater treatment plant on the property, with many groundwater monitoring wells and extraction and recovery wells used to monitor and treat groundwater contamination in the area. Contamination from this off-site property is known to have affected groundwater beneath the subject property. Soil contamination may be present beneath the existing former police station building. Soil vapor in the vicinity of the building was contaminated with volatile organic compounds associated with the adjacent OK Tool Company Superfund site. The soil vapor was determined to be trapped beneath the building and a migration pathway into the building was identified in August 2000 by USEPA.

Former Use: The subject property was likely first developed with a small building in 1952. Based on deed records, a bulk oil sotrage facility/oil dealer operated from the western portion of the subject property circa 1962. Subsequent development occurred in 1970 when the current building was constructed as a motel. The property was historically used as a motel from 1970 to the 1980s, an administration building for Hitchiner Manufacturing Co. Inc., from the 1980's to 1989, and the Milford Police Department to present however the current building is only being used for storage, currently.
