Following the earlier site assessment, the site remained vacant until 2004 when the City of Jackson used its EPA Brownfields Showcase funding to assess the site and safely remove a corroding heating tank that was extracted to allow a thorough assessment of the property. The City also leveraged additional funding to conduct asbestos and lead abatement activities. In 2006, the City worked with developers to renovate King Edward Hotel into a mixed use facility that will house 64 residential units, a Hilton Garden Inn that opened in late 2009, retail shops, restaurants and a fitness center. Source for leveraging accomplishments come from success story published by EPA Region 4. New address for hotel is 235 W. Capital Street, Jackson, MS http://tinyurl.com/qcmb43j
