Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: The site had been used for various industrial purposes over its 110-year existence and was originally a textile mill. Most recently the site was owned by New England Log Homes Inc., a company that cut and treated wood for log homes and sold kits to construct them before. The site was abandoned and has been vacant since the mid-1990s. In 2001 the site was decimated by a fire. The primary contaminant found at the site is pentachlorophenol or PCP. The chemical is commonly used in herbicides, pesticides and disinfectants. In this case, however, the PCPs had been used to treat and preserve wood and they were found several feet below surface level.

The site has been redeveloped as affordable housing, the Bentley Apartments. This housing is riverfront and is near both main street and the transit route.
