Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: The Site has been industrialized since the 1800s with a portion of Lot 236 used as a tannery until 1912, and a portion of Lot 221 occupied by a large Salem Light Gas Company gas storage tank. From 1912 to 2002, the Site formerly was operated by Salem Oil & Grease and manufactured leather conditioning oil. The previous industrial operations have been inactive since 2002. Salem Oil & Grease specialized in the production of proprietary oil blends and specialty oils for the leather industry. The basic components of the manufacturing process were vegetable, synthetic, fish and animal oils. Finishing products, used as leather and textile lubricants, were produced using sulfonation and sulfation processes.
