Additional Property Attributes

The Redevelopment Agency of Salt Lake City teamed up with DERR and the EPA Brownfields Pilot Program and Brownfields Community Showcase to redevelop 5 blocks along the 500 West corridor. The project was associated wth redvelopment of various Salt Lake City downtown commercial areas in preparation from the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics. The adjacent 40 acres to the Park Blocks were simultaneously developed into a large outdoor mall (Gateway Project). The site received a Pheonix Award for the redevelopment in 2003.

Former Use: The site was previously used as a railroad yard. A phase II assessment fond low level contamination associated with metals processing and rail use. Remediation was tied into redevelopment via removal of the railroad ties and capping and landscaping of the site.
