Additional Property Attributes

The OKLA Theater is located in downtown McAlester, Oklahoma and is on the National Register of Historic Places. The Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality has awarded a 200,000.00 subgrant to the non-profit organization that currently owns and is seeking to renovate the historic art-deco theater. Only $159,397.65 of the subgrant funding was used on the cleanup. The project cost $183,983.50 and DEQ sent the subgrantee a check for this amount. Here's the funding sources for this check: $159,397.65 came from the RLF grant and the other $24,585.85 was paid by DEQ and counted as grant match (cost share). The subgrantee also provided $36,797 in match for the cleanup. (This is different than we do things with our other subgrants. This was our first subgrant after the ARRA money and we were still working out our process.) A phase II was conducted on the property by EPA's contractor. The report is dated April 13, 2012. A phase I was also conducted on the property in April 2012. Both reports were funded and conducted by EPA. Former Use: The historic, art-deco OKLA Theater is located on Main Street in the heart of historic downtown McAlester, Oklahoma. It is owned by the Ardeneum of Oklahoma Charitable and Educational Foundation, Inc., a non-profit organization that focuses on promoting the arts in the southeast region of the state. Currently, the Ardeneum is leasing the theater to another non-profit, Pride in McAlester. Pride in McAlester hopes to use the theater as a venue for small events such as plays and movies.

According to the Subgrant Agreement Memo: the non-profit future use of the theater is a space for the arts and other events. The status of redevelopment: Currently, there is a gift shop and tours both available by appointment only and the building is now owned by the City. k.s.
