Additional Property Attributes

The City is currently conducting redevelopment planning activities on the site including development of plans for expansion of an existing municipal recreational complex. Planned improvements include football and baseball fields, a playground, a splash pad and other public recreation amenities. Former Use: The site was historically used as a lumber milling and distribution center and has been owned by different subsidiaries of Bazor Lumber. The site is currently idle and the City is actively pursuing economic development activities and opportunities for the site. Cleanup planning, including the review of previous environmental reports for the site has begun. MDEQ and PPM met with Mayor Eddie Fulton at the Bazor Lumber Site in Quitman on June 20, 2018 as part of cleanup planning efforts to evaluate what areas of the site needed additional assessment or were eligible for an EPA Cleanup Grant or remediation cost reimbursement through the Mississippi Economic Redevelopment Act (MERA). Bond bill in 2019 Mississippi legislative session died in committee. Mayor intends to reintroduce in 2020. Project on hold due to lack of Bond Bill funding for redevelopment.
