Additional Property Attributes

The property was an underutilized former railroad located within the National Park Service's Mississippi National River Recreation Area (MNRRA) in the heart of St. Paul. The CAR is using its $200,000 EPA brownfields cleanup grant award to clean up hazardous chemicals and petroleum contamination as part of a redevelopment project. The property (two parcels) will be redeveloped for re-use as the Bruce Vento Nature Sanctuary. The Sanctuary Recreation property (contaminated primarily by hazardous chemicals) is being cleaned up and redeveloped with a trail that will connect to other regional trails; the Conservation property (contaminated primarily by petroleum products) is being cleaned up and restored to its natural wetlands habitat. The CAR is also providing funding for the project. (PPF attached to QR 5, 10/1/04-12/31/04)
