Additional Property Attributes

The building has been used as a restaurant and food establishment since the 1950s. It was formerly ran under the names of The Broaster and Little Big Men Pizza. The landowner says he has seen photos from prior to the 1950s, and there used to be a structure on the eastern side of the property which held a second-hand store and boarding house. Currently run as Boxcars Restaurant and Lounge. Landowner says there was a petroleum release at the former Flying J, which was adjacent to the property (facility #21-08665 and release #475). Landowner says there are two monitoring wells on his property and DEQ should have records of the sampling from both wells. The Phase II verified that petroleum impacts previously identified on the northwestern corner of the property were no longer present, confirming a 2007 forecast that the contamination would attenuate over time. After reviewing the Phase II findings, DEQ issued the site owner a letter on October 4, 2013 stating that (1) petroleum impacts originated from the adjacent property, with no release of petroleum at Box Cars, and (2) the petroleum concentrations at the Box Cars property are not a threat to human health or the environment.
